Anyone know how to by-pass the alt-3 for # on UK keyboards to get the actual # sign instead of invoking ‘argument mode’?

This is pretty illmatic, but seriously … what’s wrong with Ctrl + left, Ctrl + Right, and Ctrl + Backspace?
